After long and careful consideration (Bua looked at the house and loved it), we’ve moved to the city of Udon Thani, in the province of Udon Thani. We’re now in a detached, single family home just a tiny bit inside the ring road around UT.
It’s owned by a friend still living in Pattaya, and we got a good deal to come up here, get it back in shape, and overall enjoy the country life.
What I was looking for was to get more of a feeling of living in residential Thailand, rather than living in Tourist Thailand. Pattaya does have many wonderful attributes, but even living 4 km out on the Darkside, it still was fairly touristy. Our here, I rarely ever see another farang in our community/village. I know there are other foreigners living around here, I just don’t ever see them.
October’s been our first month in Udon. So far, I’m wondering why we didn’t do this last year. It’s been a great moved, and while I do miss my friends in Pattaya, we’ve already scheduled our first ‘vacation’ back to Pattaya in mid November.
